Vitamin C and Collagen are involved in the following processes, which are important for healthy skin and hair:

COLLAGEN FORMATION

SKIN HYDRATION

Vitamin C supports the formation of collagen, which is essential for healthy skin and hair.

There are many complex chemical reactions that occur deep beneath the skin. One of these reactions, which is important for healthy skin, is facilitated by Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is essential for the activity of proline hydroxylase and lysine hydroxylase, two enzymes that are required for the synthesis of stable collagen.1

Collagen is a tightly packed protein that forms long, thin fibers, and is the major component of the connective tissue found in the dermis. The dermis is the middle layer of the skin where collagen is synthesized by cells called fibroblasts.2

Collagen is necessary to achieve healthy skin, and to maintain its elasticity. But to ensure the formation of stable collagen, the body needs Vitamin C. 1

When the skin is dehydrated, this means that there is a lack of skin moisture and not a lack of oil.
In fact, even oily skin can be dehydrated. 3 Given this, both dry and oily skin can experience dehydration and can make the skin look both dull and dry.

Collagen is a protein that is important to skin vitality. Several studies show that collagen can help improve skin hydration, plus reduce skin dryness and even the formation of wrinkles.4

Hydrolyzed Collagen is a form of collagen that is easily digestible, readily absorbed, and distributed in the human body. Clinical trials have shown that hydrolyzed collagen helps improve skin properties, including hydration.5
